The 2021 summer program will be led by a speech-language pathologist and adaptive riding instructor. A special educator will be available for consultations as needed. This year, each participant will have the option of bringing their own STAAR Buddy (from their familial bubble; must be age 16+) or have a speech pathology graduate student assigned to them. STAAR Buddies will be trained to assist participants in goal acquisition by continuously targeting speech-language goals through all activities. Siblings are also invited to attend at discounted rate.

This year the STAAR Summer Program will accept a maximum of 6 "bubbles" (family units) per session to ensure social distancing measures can be met through all activities. All small and whole group activities will allow for proper social distancing measures. Please visit our FAQ page for more detailed information on COVID related policy changes. Upon enrollment, you and your child will be scheduled for a private screening and tour at Madison Fields.

The STAAR Summer Program is designed to promote speech, language, and social development in a naturalistic environment. With a focus on fun, our unique model allows participants to target their speech and language goals through out a variety of engaging experiences, including: adapted horseback riding, fishing, chicken tending, nature hikes, arts and crafts, and more.

Children should have a minimum of 50 words (or 50 signs), be able to follow simple directions independently, and have a minimum of one year of experience in a full-day school setting.
